THE SPIRIT

Kontapel was named after the Pelekh brothers, who in 2018  discovered batch of kontabas  that has been brewing since 1993, as well as a recipe for this drink in a village in Transcarpathia. They bought over 90 liters of kontabas, blended and poured for sale in 400 bottles.

Kontabas is an ancient Ukrainian beverage made on the basis of specially prepared distillate and aged in glass cubes on freshly cut blackcurrant buds. Due to the fact that the buds can be cut naturally only once a year, making a drink is very time consuming and expensive. For the production of 10 bottles, it is necessary to collect almost 5 liters of buds, and the collection takes place only 4 days per year.

But hard work is truly paid by the divine taste and aroma of kontabas. Until 1900, wealthy Ukrainian people gladly made this drink for themselves, and rarely sold it to foreigners.
